Robbie Matthews- Reserve team Manager writes-

It’s fair to say that this season has been a turbulent year for our reserve team, after the departure of our previous management team in November, I was delighted to be asked to take over the manager’s role for a second time, having successfully steered the team clear of relegation during the final months of the 2014 – 2015 season. In the 6 months since taking the helm we again saw a massive overhaul of players with a notable improvement in quality largely responsible for an upturn in results allowing us to climb the table. Having picked up some vital wins towards the end of the season, confidence of avoiding relegation was high and the new Development Trophy gave us an opportunity in bringing home some silverware. Relegation was avoided, sadly no trophy this season.

In my role as manager, I am indebted to the unwavering support from my assistant Matt Hope, who has been a calming influence with sound tactical knowledge and a great rapport with the players, it’s been a positive experience for me and one I am hoping to build on in coming seasons.   Matt & I have been fortunate to benefit from a positive relationship and ongoing support from our first team management team Peter Nielson & Richard Parry, together we have been able to develop a group of quality players with a commitment to the club not seen in recent years and I personally am very much looking forward to further developing the relationship with the lads and improving results on the pitch and developing the club as a whole.

As managers, we rely heavily on the support from our committee, we are fortunate to have stalwarts Roy Williamson & Margaret Hopkins who are both invaluable to the club with their knowledge, experience and seemingly limitless enthusiasm for all things West Kirby FC. We are delighted to be able to welcome new teams to the club in terms of the U18’s under Symon Stanley, the first ever junior side at the club under Gareth Brooks & Jimmy Cross and the new ladies side under Andy Jones. Along with new committee member Paul Fitzpatrick, father of club goal machine Jordan Griffiths, we are delighted that all have chosen to join the club and we look forward to a bright future here at Marine Park.

We look forward to 2017 –2018 and all the exciting developments planned for pre-season.

Best Wishes

Robbie Matthews
